Battery leak detection systems

Auto sales finally got back above pre-recession levels in 2014 with August sales reaching a seven-year high. After six long years, sales levels have matched 2007’s pace. More importantly, several research groups expect 2015 continue to grow. Today’s Motor Vehicles allows marketers direct access to this healthy industry with continued growth.

Auburn Hills, Michigan – Marposs non-destructive leak testing machines identify the presence of leaks in prismatic or cylindrical battery cells, modules, and battery pack assemblies. These systems enable parts to be checked for defects without being transferred to a measurement lab, eliminating the need to reload and reposition the part for any necessary reworking, improving the process and optimizing cycle time.

Leak testing of a prismatic battery cell prior to electrolyte filling and sealing using helium-charged vacuum technology is also possible. The detectable leak range goes from 5.0 x 10-3 mbar*L/s to 5.0 x 10-8 mbar*L/s. Furthermore, Marposs can provide a fully automatic robot sniffing machine for leak testing of a battery tray or a complete battery pack assembly, with identification of the leaking point.

The IRIX Confocal non-contact system can measure the thickness of copper film, and the Aeroel Wireline solution monitors the diameter and ovality of steel and copper wire during drawing.
