Navistar International Corp. has made Truck-Lite high-visibility LED headlamps standard on International ProStar Class 8 on-highway trucks.
“LED headlamps offer significantly longer life over traditional halogen lamps while also emitting a more natural light than improves visibility for the driver,” says Steve Gilligan, vice president, product planning and information, Navistar, Inc. “LED lights have been an option on the International ProStar for several months and we are excited about making the solution standard equipment on our ProStar model.”
Truck-Lite, a New York company, has been making LED headlamps for military vehicles since 2007 with many U.S. trucks in Afghanistan and Iraq using the company’s lighting. It announced OEM-available truck lights last year at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
The strategically designed visibility system is the industry’s first 100% LED lighting assembly. A LED headlight, a LED turn signal, and a LED daytime running light will all be included on the ProStar line. The new ProStar® custom LED forward lighting assembly’s life cycle is rated at over 30,000 hours.
Brad Van Riper, Truck-Lite’s Chief Technology Officer says, “With the new LED forward lighting assembly, Truck-Lite and International are delivering more white light on the road, adding significant peripheral road clarity and increased forward visibility which enhances the drivers feeling of safety.”
Most of the exterior lights on the ProStar now utilize LED technology, which draws less power than halogen lamps. The lower power draw extends the life of the lights and lowers maintenance costs for customers, while allowing for additional power for supplemental electronic devices on the vehicle.
