Dearborn, Michigan – Ford hasn’t started taking orders for its $400,000 GT supercar. It’s taking applications for the low-volume, high-power vehicle. The company plans to make only 250 per year, and the applications it has begun receiving at www.fordgt.com only cover the first two years of production.
Like most job applications these days, the GT application will likely be followed by a credit check. Once approved, successful applicants will work with a concierge service to personalize their suburban-McMansion-priced vehicles.
“The purchase process for the Ford GT is as unique as our all-new supercar,” says Henry Ford III, global marketing manager, Ford Performance. “We understand GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Co., and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself.”
The GT website includes some of the typical automaker tools, such as the ability to virtually add features to the car, but it won’t take orders. With limited production leaded to exclusivity in ownership, officials with the automaker say not all who are willing to spend $400,000 will be able to buy cars.
”Ford is conducting this application process to identify from a host of deserving candidates those individuals who will be invited to discuss a potential Ford GT purchase,” company officials say on the site.
A stunner unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the GT is a showcase for lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamics, and turbocharged engine technology – critical areas that the automaker is pursuing to make its vehicles efficient enough to meet 2025 fuel economy standards.
Accepted applicants from around the world will be contacted by the concierge and provided a tailored experience – not only through the ordering and delivery but through years of ownership.
The web-based application process for the first round of applications closes on May 12, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
